My thoughts on the new translation of the Novus Ordo

Since that is what everyone is talking about in Catholic-land right now, I guess I will too.  So here is my thought:

I went to the Traditional Mass today.

  1. Every Eucharistic Sacrifice celebrated according to an authorized rite of the Church IS the Traditional Mass of All Time.

  2. Jack,

In a sense, and a very important sense at that, you are of course correct, insamuch as any Mass (or the other names it goes by) is the re-presentation of the One Sacrifice of Calvary. However, the so-called "externals" of the Rite are also eminently important to the Rite and to the Church. A liturgy cut, pasted, snipped, and fabricated by a commission is not the same as one which developed throughout the ages of the Church. One came to us from God above, one not so much.

I do not question the validity of a properly offered Mass according to the Pauline books. It is just objectively inferior in conveying the truths of the Faith.

The Mass of All Time is the Son offering himself to the Father through the hands of the priest. But it is also the sum of the ceremonies, prayers, rubrics, etc. etc. So I don't think one can say that the Pauline missal is the Mass of All Time in the same manner as the TLM/Extraordinary Form/Tridentine Mass.
